The GIZ Water and Sanitation Sector Programme PROSECEAU aims to provide poor households in urban and rural areas with safe and clean drinking water and sanitation in Burundi. The project intervenes in three main areas: water quality protection, performance improvement of the national water service provider, and drinking water access in rural areas. This video explains these three objectives in detail.

The GIZ Water and Sanitation Sector Programme of Burundi (PROSECEAU) implements activities to protect water catchments paired with the promotion of behavioural changes in basic sanitation and hygiene at household level. This short film introduces some of the highlights of PROSECEAU’s involvement in Burundi from 2016 to 2020 to improve the quality of drinking water, giving a voice to institutional partners, beneficiary households and other development agents.

In 2019, 27% of Cambodian schools had no water service, 38% had no sanitation service and 47% had no hygiene service. These deficits have major implications for children’s health, educational attainment and overall well-being. Access to safe drinking water, clean and functional toilets, and handwashing facilities not only minimize the potential for disease transmission, but also improve the learning environment and addresses issues of dignity and privacy.

Access to water, sanitation chain, financing, information systems, implementing actors, and sector frameworks are all key to scaling up water and sanitation in Kenya. The Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) actively participates in scaling-up water and sanitation access in low-income areas like Kenya.

Keki Adikhari, a well-known Nepalese actress with more than 1.5 million followers on social media wants to find out how far Nepal has come in the fight against menstrual taboos and restrictions. She takes the viewer on a journey to the far west of the country where she visits a school and a village in a rural area to learn what has changed in girls’ and women’s daily lives – and what still needs to be done to ensure that every girl has access to menstrual hygiene and education.

In the second film Keki Adikhari aims to find out how all the progress Nepal is making in menstrual health can be sustained in the future. She speaks with experts at a meeting of the Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management Partners Alliance in Kathmandu and attends a workshop for girls where she explores how destigmatizing menstrual health can empower women and girls in Nepal.

The project Sanitation for Millions builds and renovates safely managed and inclusive sanitation facilities in schools, medical centers and religious institutions. In addition, the project trains local staff to maintain the facilities themselves, thus ensuring the sustainability of the measures. In particular, this video presents activities of the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Pakistan.
