The PROCUENCA project implemented by GIZ in Bolivia aims at improving water security in the country while tackling the impact of climate change. The so-called "Flying rivers" are atmospheric waterways that rise from the Amazon rainforest and supply rain for Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina. This natural phenomenon is threatened as more and more rainforest is deforested. If the rainforest disappears, the "flying rivers" will dry up, with severe consequences for Brazil and the global climate.

The project aims to reduce emissions from Indonesia’s peatland and mangrove regions as well as the livelihoods in rural communities.

Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world and severely affected by climate change and refugee influx. GIZ implemented a holistic decentralized wastewater management system in the Dana biosphere reserve to prevent groundwater pollution, use effluent for irrigation and generate biogas for cooking.

Addressing environmental degradation from human activities such as charcoal burning through Integrated Watershed Management is key to restoring and protecting water resources and improving the livelihood of smallholder farmers in Zambia’s Lower Kafue Sub-Catchment. This short film provides a first-hand experience to catchment protection that the EU and BMZ funded AWARE Project has conducted through Integrated Watershed Management in partnership with the Zambian government, local Water Users Associations and communities at two pilot sites.

Through the AWARE programme, GIZ supports the Zambian Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) to communicate the need for sustainable water resources management and agricultural water use efficiency.

The Lake Chad Basin Commission connects 450 stakeholders (regional representatives from agriculture, civil society and advisors to government agencies) on the challenge of climate change adaptation. Since 2015, approximately 14,180 inhabitants have benefited from activities on good agricultural practices for adaptation to climate change. By 2022, a total of more than 30,000 inhabitants will be reached.
